Hi everyone,
I have suffered with clusters for about 6 years. 1 cluster ~5 weeks each year starting between December and March. 1 headache/day 1-4hrs. usually ~1-2 am onset. I know not nearly as bad as many here. Last year I saw a neurologist just as I had ended my cluster, he gave me a sample of nasal Imitrex. I made it through my normal period this year with no cluster but had one start last week :(.

When a cluster starts I usually take 120mg verapamil
2 x daily for ~ 5 weeks. This time it doesn't seem to be as effective at blocking the headaches. I have examined the info with the sample and online and it has a warning to take for the first time in the presence of your doctor (like I'm really going to be with my doctor at 2 am) and warnings about chest tightness that feels like a heart attack. Frankly I'm scared as hell to try it so have just been living through the headaches. Friends who are migraine sufferers frankly like the 'rush' but it scares me.

Do those out there get these side effects, are they less with pill - obviously takes longer to work, how long? The pein is incredible but don't want the cure to be worse than the disease. What luck have people had otherwise, I see people talk about Zomig any side effects is it safer? In past clusters, I have taken 400mg Aleve every 4-5 hours round the clock (2-3 times recommended dosage) with some success at blocking them. Neurologist didn't like that solution. Any other suggestions?

Frankly its hard to just live through them although having the cold air from the freezer blow on my forehead helps a little :)

Trying to get into the doctor for another appointment but would appreciate any help.

Thanks
