I don't have them like you, but...

When I have fears or anxiety, I tend to get daymares. I am awake, but I am seeing in frightful detail horrible things that'll happen to me (or my near/dear ones). I am not asleep, but neither do I do this consciously.

I think Cheryl is on the right track. I feel it is my subconscious fighting back in an anxious situation, by contrasting it with other bad things.

When we are fighting the demon, how often haven't we cried, 'Nothing can be worse than this!'
In effect here we're telling ourselves that some things are...
