Paco is right. Did God create us in His/Her image, or did we create God in our image?

Reflections

"Do you believe in God?" I asked.

Lennie looked at me with his ever-present cynical stare, "Walk with me to the pond," he said.

"Why?"

"Have you learned nothing? There is no why - it just is," he replied.

The water was motionless. Not a ripple anywhere. The sounds of birds, crickets and the smell of lilacs were in the air. There were families of ants busy crawling about on a large rock nearby. Lennie immediately crushed the ants under his foot.

"Oops," he said. "Lean over that rock and take a look at your reflection in the water."

I did as he instructed. "Yeah, so what?"

"What do you see?"

"I see my mirror image."

"Or does your mirror image see you?"

This was ridiculous. My knees hurt from being pressed on this stupid little rock, and my blue jeans probably had ant guts all over them. I wasn't about to play some stupid non-reality bullshit game with a cynic who was no where near as pessimistic as I was.

"No," I said emphatically, "I'm looking at my mirror image because I'm a Realist!"

"Me too," he said. He dropped a small stone in the pond and pointed out that my mirror image had disappeared.

"The ripples in the water have erased your image," he said.

"No shit," I replied, as I stood and brushed ant innards from my blue jeans.

Lennie looked at me, smiled and said, "The superior question is: 'Does God believe in me?'"
