Yep, I managed to keep my job and finally retired (early) but was counciled many times during my career. BUT I think if I were still working during the last cycle, I would have been fired. There were so many times that the beast would finally retreat as the sun was coming up and going to work was positively not an option. So what to do if I had been canned? Unemployment @ $400.00 a week for a limited time? No way. Bag groceries and stock shelfs at minimum wage until the supermarket manager got tired of the absenteeism? Nah. Apply for disability and receive 60% of my base pay? You bet. While I'm episodic (been chronic too), it matters little to an employer whether you only miss work for two to four months or year round. If you're the leader of the absentee pack, you're toast. CH can be totally disabling and that is exactly what disability is for. If the job community says you are not fit, there are only a few options.
