Hi Michael,
Does indomethacin control the pain? If not, it most likely is CH and not CPH. I highly reccommend (as many others do) using O2 as an abortive. And yes, most of us experiece the "instant stop". As for shadows, they are a low grade CH pain that can go on for hours, can come and go without getting to the head banging, cursing and screaming stage. My shadows are also "blessed" with icepicks.
