I have been a chronic for 8+ years. I often go six months without a PFD. I was cyclic in the beginning, but the way to know that you're chronic is if the pain never, or seldom, goes away. I do cycle up and down the scale, but rarely am headache-free. To quote a line from a movie, "You have my sympathy".
