I just had a chat with him on the phone. He said his eyes (not sure whether one or both) were watering 'with the pain', but no nasal congestion. He's going to get his teeth checked out, as he thinks it could be an abcess. I've persuaded him to check in the mirror next time the pain's bad and see if his eyelid is drooping.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see...
