I'm too lazy to dig back through my stuff but I seem to remember reading that the hypothalamus receives signals from blood pressure sensors. Based on these signals, it signals the release or non-release of 5HT from the plateletts to regulate the blood vessles and thereby control the pressure. I think either the hypo itself is messed up or perhaps the signal senders are.
Interesting line of thought and worthy of some real study.
