This is my 14th year now, just starting another cycle 2 weeks ago. I refuse to take Lithium as a preventative, because it does nothing. Imitrex & Hydrocodone do nothing for the pain but zone me out. The pain is still intense, but you just sit and veg on this medication.
My best releif is to freez my eye and temple with air conditioning. I lean forward in the car, close all the vents but 1, and blast cold air on the area for about 15 min. At least it's an instant releif & a great distraction while your waiting for the pain to pass. It seems to work every time, but how long it takes - varies. The air conditioning in the house is not as cold nor is the fan strong enough, as the car.
The air is the best for me, because an ice pack or sun glasses always seem to touch the vein and make the pain more intense, and the CH can then last 38 hours (suicidal).
