Most of the docs that I mention my theory to act
as though I'm nuts, so I don't look for much help
there.
A blood test will give a fair indication of what
the thyroid is doing, but the most accurate test
is a nuclear uptake test.( I had never heard of it either.) In this test an iodine pill is exposed
to a small dose of radiation. Six hours after the pill is swallowed a meter is used to determine the amount of radiation that the thyroid gland absorbs. This gives a pretty good indication of what the thyroid is doing.
Since my thyroid has been destroyed I have to take Synthroid to provide my T4 hormone. The .2 mg pill that I was taking each day brought my hormone level to "normal" as well as bringing my cluster headaches back. I can live with my hormone level a little low if it keeps the CH,s away ! 12 full days and counting !!!!!!!
