If Ed has ever had a cluster headache, it obviously did destroy his sanity. In any event, he shouldn't mock the Social Security Admin, as he is almost qualified to work there, based on his comprehension skills.

I don't know how or why he even came to this website - perhaps he meant to search "Custer" rather than "cluster". Forgive his unbridled ignorance. It seems to be a source of tremendous pride to him.

In any event, my employer asked me to take medical leave in early '96 (and I had to agree with him - I wasn't able to work reliably anymore). I do get disability as one of my health benefits, but I also have to file for Social Security benefits.

I've been in that process since 3/97, going through the initial application, "Request For Reconsideration", and a "Hearing". I had a lawyer for the last 2 steps. All came out negative. Now I'm in the "Appeal Council" phase (takes 12 to 18 months, they say). If that fails, the last chance in the process is Federal court.

I'll be glad to fill you in on my experience and opinions. It hasn't been positive, but there may be worthwhile lessons in it. Others have succeeded. A lot may depend on the Hearing Judge. Mine was like Ed, only worse. Also - see my msgs to the other folks who replied to you. It may be that there's a better Social Security program for you than the one I chose (Social Security Income versus Social Security Disability Income).

Last comment...if you respond, it may be a week or more before you'd hear back from me, due to my time/health constraints. Don't despair.

had a fair amount of experience
