I believe the name for this muscle weakness is ataxia and is listed as a potential side effect of Topamax. My ataxia was severe however, I was paralyzed from the waist down for about 4 hours. No pedal reflexes....nothing. It was very strange to say the least. I'm lucky to be in the medical field and was able to monitor myself at home with the help of my best friend an ICU nurse who was more scared than I at the time. I wish I hadn't had this reaction because the medication was working very well for me up to that point. I see that it can work wonders for people, just be aware of this side effect.
