Regardless of how the individual headache in a cluster ends there is a general sensation in that side of the head (my right). Best decribed as a sort of numbness and not particularly pleasant.
Found that ibuprofein works somewhat (800 mg every 3 hours). Codeine works when I have some for a shoulder problem.
Back to the "after shock". During the stages of a cluster, worst was 8 weeks, I was never very far from the not quite there headache. Hard to work that way.
