Everybody here has slightly different experiences in the details, even if the core is generally the same. Not everyone is woken, not everyone has them come like a metronome, not everyone has a ten every time...
What you've described sounds familiar enough to me, and I am sure many others.
As to whether the pain gets worse as time goes by - I don't know. I think one does adjust to it to an extent, though you never get used to it.
Just try to keep going - if you're lucky it will go away - concentrate on that!
