Yes, as Ted says it takes some time to kick in. If the imitrex makes your attacks less intense, it is at least something gained for you.
But have you tried oxygen, I wonder? I can't remember from your earlier posts. It really helps a great number of us (though not everybody).
Try and talk to your doc about it. O2 is an abortive with very few to none side effects.
