quite a bit of discussion of the hypothalmus/seratonin/melanonin theory
frankly sounds to me to be the "best guess" so far
the extensions of that is that CH is first a neurological problem, with a secondary associated (or caused) circulatory aspect
re: no brain tumors
well, never say never
but it is pretty conventionally held that nobody has come up with any demonstrable evidence that CH patients have more than the "normal" incidence of physical damage, malformation or tumor
it goes against the grain of "western" science to accept that something this horrible can come from something we can't see or blood test for, BUT I suspect that is simply an artifact of our very primitive ability to "see" to begin with
