You might try taking Imitrex instead of the codeine. You can still navigate on it. Also DHE45 injections will help keep them under control or cafagot. These drugs don't "put you out of it".
I never got any relief from pain meds, so I usually use cafagot or Imitrex (can't mix them). When they get real bad I have to go to the DHE45.
