Does he have one sided pain? Does he ever say it feels like someone is stabbing him in the eye? Do they wake him up from a sleep? Does he pace around and perhaps bang his head on things? Clusters are different from migraines in that the pain is more centralized and severe. You can't sit still, you usually can't lay down at all. For me, rocking on the floor, holding my head is about the closest I get to inactivity.
Hot or cold compresses, drinking lots of water, Tiger Balm on the cheek, etc....really seem to help. BUT, o2 seems to be the safest and most effective method. Check out the board, there are great ideas here.
