I've always gotton fever blisters!
I still think mine has something to do with a type of virus that got in after I had a tooth pulled and then the pain started 10 months later. That would explain why I have remissions. When the virus becomes active in the nerve I have pain. Once it settles down again I'm in remission. (?)
