The 'horrific side-effects' of pred and several other meds have been much overblown here lately, and totally un-substantiated by the actual medical info. In point of fact, the sides to a short taper of pred are virtually non-existant, although long term use at a higher dosage (as with your son) can lead to complications.

It behooves us all to remember that most of what folks post here is anecdotal and based upon very limited experience, if any. Using the links here, at UKCH, at HSG and those Bob Johnson posts is a much more reasonable approach.
