I have gone into er and drs. office and been hooked up to iv for aprox anywhere from 2-5 hours to DHE had it stop a series of headaches that were just coming on over and over and over and not leting up and leaving me alone. Or I have had some that have lasted longer than normal. One word of caution. I have found many doctors very eager to administer this in the ER after I have told them that I have taken Zomig or Imitrix at home to abort the headache within the last 24 hours. They have looked at me blank, stared, and said so what? Then I have to teach the DR. in the ER about drug interactions between triptans (imitrix) and ergots (dhe). Then risk having them get mad at you because you know more about your condition and drugs than they do and they realize you know they could have just about killed you or just made your situation worse. I have heard of some people going into the hospital and getting DHE for 3 or 4 days to clean out the system so to speak but personally I just can't imagine it. Good luck!
