I am taking Topomax now. My neuro told me the possible confusion side effects could be avoided altogether if he increased my dosage very slowly over a period of time. He started me out at 25 mg a day and has been steadily increasing since then. I have not experienced any negative side effects thus far. I am being weaned off of the Lithium which I was taking before. That however, has made my hair fall out and break off. Every drug reacts differently with every person. I would not rule out Topomax based on one negative experience conveyed to you. Good luck.
