My neurologist prescribed Imitrex inhalers (20mg) and instructed me to use only ywo per day. During the accute stage, there were days when I used 3 or 4, but felt no ill effects. If I was awake (for about 6 weeks during my last attrack they were mainly at night) Imitrex inhalers were 100% effective. Normally when I could feel the aura coming, the Imitrex would abort the headache.
I was also on Sansert as a prophylactic for 4 months. I just finished the last RX a few days ago. There are indications that the ergot dirivative drugs may have adverse affect on the liver. I had hepatitis A several years ago, so the doc took me off in 4 months instead of the normal 6.
I wouldn't worry about the side effects of the Imitrex if used in the normal dosage range. Hey these things hurt so bad, it is just a blessing to find anything to make them stop.
