first, acknowlegment to Dr. Jerry in S. Africa who came up with this amazing treatment!
second, acknowledgement that this does not work for some folks. not sure of the success ratio.
now, on to wotz goin' on ... there are a couplea theories

1. the medicals call it "hydrating yourself". some thought that we're washing some substance out of our system ... like salts, histamines, hormones, or something.
2. second theory i've heard ... high water "table" in cells cause them to reverse their normal osmosis - the process by which water and other environmentals enter cells - kind of a "sucking" function, where high pressure flows to low pressure. so, when we're dehydrated, pressure outside of cells is lower than pressure inside, so water et al flows out of cells. when hydrated, water pressure is greater in fluids than in cells and water et al flows into cells. i guess this theory says there's some deficiency in cells causing pain that water insemination forstalls or corrects.
3. my theory. it's not the water, but the drinking action. the water flowing past the point of pain initiation (back of nose) either chemically combines with some irritant or washes an irritant away from the tissue that's being aggravated to cause the pain.

bottom line: guess how it works is secondary to the fact that it works (when it does)!

glad to hear it works for you, Ben.
freaky, huh?

p.s. BTW, it's not only an abortive. i'm up to about 2 gallons a day as a preventive. if i screw up and drink less, it takes about 2 days - then i have a bad day. when i raise the total back to where it needs to be (?? different tots for different folks ??) again it takes about 2 days for the HAs to succumb. but i do not find that i acclimate to it ... i haven't had to increase the "dosage" like you have to with some meds/narcs.
