DHE-45 is one of the old tried and true remedies for breaking a cluster. It's in the ergotomine family and shrinks vessels that expand causing pain. It can be taken orally, BUT works better if given IV (at least the first 6 doses or so). Side effects are NAUSEA (big time) so you MUST take it with Reglan or Pheneragan (take the anti-nauseau med about 15 min before the DHE). It is caustic and if injected in your butt feels like battery acid, but it WILL keep HAs at bay - at least it worked for me most of the time.
Cafagot (ergotomine and caffine) comes in pills and supp. (The supp worked better for me and FASTER).
