When I get hit I just keep reminding my self that it will pass. As I have gotten older I have found that the attacks have gotten longer in duration but less in pain. I guess the "area under the curve" (over all pain factor) is still the same though. I try not to dwell on the bad times and look forward to the good times. It is the best way for me to deal with living with the beast. Life goes on!
