Sounds like it was poor quality acid. I haven't seen much in the way of acid for 6 years. Back then a hit was probably quivalent to 60-100mcgs. If you took 200mcgs then you'd know about it! I doubt if any was involved in fighting the CH, because I always felt the full effect regardless of my CH. I would warn others against taking this much at once... if they procured good quality acid then 8-9 hits would be an extremely unpleasant experience!
In my time Hallucinations tend to kick in at around 1 tab (or 2 really weak ones). I remember once watching my douvet breathe - my friends saw the same thing. Another effect that kicks in at around this level is severe time distortion, and also perspective distortion. At a little time distortion would occur after 1/2 tab, and things would look a lot brighter. I recall renting a video, it was "Regarding Henry", and getting so absorbed in each trailer that I though the trailers were little movies in their own right. The film itself seemed to go on forever (in a nice way).
I think it's impotant to remember that LSD has a maximum effective dose. I believe this is around 300mcgs. Any more than that and you did not notice any increase in effect. There is some information on this from EROWID. I am unaware of people having a tolerance to acid, although a lot may depend on the persons digestive cycle and what they had to eat. $150 for 40 hits is a very good price, but it sounds like you got ripped off over the quality of acid.
