How about trying Dramamine to get him through the night? It won't touch his pain if he does get a cluster, but it just might prevent an attack that would otherwise wake him (and you) up. Sometimes Benedryl has the same side effect. Both produce sleep.
If he won't take one, maybe you should. You need to be strong to help him and if you're sleep deprived as well, you're fighting two battles. Ask him if he minds if you try to do this. I'm sure he will see that you're trying to help him in the long run.
