I've done enough reading on him to come down on the side of the pro-cluster faction. No one can prove it of course but he did have severe bouts of depression from time to time, especially after his young wife died. It seems to me I read of his having clusters many years ago but that's a distant memory. I'm still reading his Adams correspondence and I'll let you know what I find. I'm also reading Joseph Ellis' book "American Sphinx." I've always been interested in him since I visted Monticello.
