My mother had a bad case of shingles a couple of years ago, and her doctor put her on an anti-viral drugs, similar to what is used for Aids patients. It's suppose to shorten the course of the disease and keep the pain, along the nerves, from becoming chronic. My mother is now 83, so her immune system is already compromised because of age. It did help quite a bit to stop the progression of the virus. She also used capcaisin cream after the lesions dried up, to ease the pain.

Good luck & hope you get better soon.

Best,
Chana
