One of my professors was a migraine sufferer, and he used to go run five miles if he knew a headache was coming on. He said the first ten minutes of his run were total agony, but after that, the headache cleared. If he stopped running immediately, it would come back, but if he kept it up for a half hour or more then it would be gone for good.

I tried something similar with my clusters, dragging out the weights and pumping away. Sometimes it helped more than others, but it definitely helped take my mind off the pain. Once or twice it definitely aborted the attack. I'd rather do something more cardio-intensive, but I'm afraid to go cycling or running while a cluster is in full force.

I'd recommend heavy exercise to anyone as a cheap alternative to painkillers. It's always worth a shot, and if nothing else, you'll be in better shape because of it.
