Most of the chronics around here talk about "cycles" also. While they typically get hit every day, or nearly so, they have "good" and "bad" periods - either in frequency, intensity or both.
This leads to the following hypothosis:
We are all cyclical, but in episodics the imbalance of brain chemicals returns to normal or near enough normal to suspend the CH for periods. In chronics, the brain never gets back close enough to normal to completely stop the attacks.
