There are no tests to diagnose CH. You can't see it in blood tests nor X-rays nor CT scans. All the doctor can do is listen to the symptoms and make the diagnosis from there.

Verapamil is a preventative medication. As Terry said, it takes a few days to build up to effective levels in the body (if it works at all).

Imitrex is an abortive medication to be taken at the onset of each headache.

O2 is also effective. On the OUCH site, Medications page, I just added a link to a picture of the non-rebreating mask that should be used.
