The only thing that is for certain in this area is that everyone is different. I can say that it usually takes several weeks at full dosage for the effects of a medication to be known. So don't give up on the verapamil yet, by any stretch, as it is the number one best preventative medication for cluster headaches out there, so give it plenty of time. Also, you may want to try adding another medication to it, such as Topamax, lithium or Sansert if it does not work by itself.

The steroids are a different thing. They are designed to work all at once, so go ahead and give them a try, if you want to, to see if they will "break your cycle". They are designed to stop the cycle, not just while you are taking them.
