Perhaps it isn't the fire danger your neuro is worried about, but rather the (admittedly low) risk of lung scarring that O2 can cause with extensive use.

The doc may figure that your hubby's lungs are already facing enough problems due to the smoking and doesn't want to risk anything else.

I don't know that this is conceivable, I'm just sort of thinking out loud. So I guess you should ask the neuro what his concerns regarding O2 and smoking are and then address them.

Oh, and this isn't some 'quit smoking' campaign - I'm a smoker myself.
