Hi Mel,
Best of luck to your mom. I know second hand how painful a pulmonary embolis can be. My wife Judy, has been there four times. With proper medication (clot busters) and care, this affliction can be controled. After finally finding a doc that cared (an Oncologist), her condition was diagnosed as deficient C protien. It's a hereditary thing (both her sister and fater have it and the treatment is blood thinner (coumadin) for life. I hope this is not your mom's case but it is something to consider.
