Over the past several years I have experienced some visual distortions. Not exactly like yours but similar. The peripheral area of my vision seems like it has a crystal effect and I have difficulty reading. The lenght of time is 15 minutes or less. There is no timing aspect to these events, just happens several times a month and then goes away.
Given your frequency of this, you probably should have it checked. Good luck.....
