For about 10 years I only got cluster headaches. While they were excruciating, the longest one lasted only 4 hours. About six years ago, the clusters began to change. Later I found out that not only did I get clusters, I got migraines and severe tension headaches. I felt like somebody hit me in the head with a hammer, an ice pick was behind my eye and so nausous that I threw up if I saw daylight. I take depakote, inderal and amitryptaline and it has prevented the very severe clusters and the migraines have virtually gone away. I still get persistant tension headaches (which also come in clusters). Overall, I'm better off since I have been on the preventative medicines, but life is still not perfect.
