Here's how it pans out:

First let me describe the effects of what I'd term a full recreational dose. This is a dose of roughly 1/3 the maximum effective dose. The maximum effective dose is a point whereby the effects do not increase when exceeded. The maximum effective dose is a fraction of the toxic dose.

All the effects of the maximum effective dose should be present to some degree in the recreational dose, although not completely overpowering. These include:

Noticable time distortion. A commercial feels like a movie and leaves you crying at the end with emotion.
Very noticable visual effects, like if your douvet starts breathing.
Psychedelia when your eyes are shut, especially induce by music.
Failure of short term memory.
Acid trails.
Very vivid colours, you watch a pinball machine all night.
Distorted perspective, you may feel small when traveling up a slight gradient.
Uncontrollable giggling.
Objects fluttering, wiggling etc, out of the corner of your eye.
Photographs slightly coming to life, for instance cigarettes glowing red at the tip, smoke coming down Bob Marleys nose etc.
The only music you aren't scared to listen to is C&W.
Hugely dilated pupils.
Pallid, red, sweaty or clammy complection.

That sort of thing.

OK - the dose required to treat CH is 1/4 - 1/2 of that! At 1/4 of that virtually none of those effects will not occur. At 1/2 of the recreational dose, some will occur, but not enough to be scary (interesting as opposed to intense).

So whatever mushroom you are familair with, this should give you a fairly good idea how much is required.

As a rule of thumb, episodics should steer closer to the 1/4 dose. For a chronic the first attempt should be round about the 1/2 dose. Subsequent the chronic will probably become episodic anyway.

Hope this helps :)
