I read this post and can't stop crying. I want to scream on that mountain top with you. I want to scream to the world too that we can't allow one more person to feel that alone, that desperate and without hope.
I hate thinking about Nathan in that barn alone. What his thoughts were I can imagine. He must have been exhausted from the long fight he had trying to take the pain. He might have thought that the next day would be the same, and the next, that there is no escaping it. Somewhat like a torture victim that knows what is to come, and knows there is no escape, but to end their life. Sometimes all thought and reason is gone when you've been in pain that long. The desperation can drive you to seek relief, NOW, because you can't take another minute.
Yes, there has to be a way to make people understand and prevent this from happening to another person. If each of us takes the time to reach out to those we know are hurting we can help prevent it. If each of us goes on a campaign to get the word out, to educate others it will help. We can't rely on others to do it for us. We each have to make the committment to be sure this doesn't happen again.
Thank you for posting this Little Liberty. I've been searching through the archives to find the perfect example of what clusters can do to our lives. This post is it. I'm going to use it for the info i'm compiling for the Gates Foundation.
I'm so sorry for you loss. Please don't let yourself get over-whelmed with guilt. You were good friends to him. This post you shared might be what saves someone else's life. Thank your for writing it.
