Prozac is not an MAO inhibitor. MAO inhibitors are the "oldest" type of antidepressants. Prozac and its clones are Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, or SSRIs. MAO is Monoamine Oxidase, another neurotransmitter. Valium is an opiate (derived from opium). Hope my modest psychology training helps, (but wait for an answer from Doc Greg, too!)
