It sounds odd to me that your doctor was smart enough to diagnose CH and not smart enough to know that painkillers are pretty useless as a treatment for CH.
There are much better medications that work to prevent cycles from starting in the first place. Sometimes it takes a while to find the one that will work for you. Sometimes a combination is needed.
If you got something like Imitrex then you might have thought it qualifies as a pain killer because it will stop the pain almost immediately for many of us. But it is not the same type of painkiller as one you might take after a tooth extraction or for a broken arm.
