I used to write many messages on this website
but haven't for some time now. I don't mean to
be a downer, but I really hope that your husband's headaches are not chronic. My husband has suffered at least 4 headaches/day for almost 7 years now. He manages to work,
and I give him a great deal of credit for that. He
unlike your husband, prefers to lhave someone
around when he has a headache. I've had to
teach myself not to take on his pain as my own,
but it is very difficult watching his suffering. We have tried everyting and have even looked into
the possibility of surgery, but the risks are great,
the success rate limited, and the side effects
downright frightening. Dr. Rapoport at the New
England Center for Headache is really pushing
for Ken to have surgery, but another doctor we
see says not to do it. Personally, I think Ken
represents a failure to NECH, and doctors do not like failures. Ken is reduced to using
narcotics to help with the pain, and, yes, I know
that narcotics just mask the pain and blah, blah,
blah, but he has no choice. All I can say to you
is that you have my heartfelt empathy. Try to hang in there, and, if these headaches are chronic you may have to rearrange the lives of
you and your family around the chronic pain. It's
difficult, but it can be done. And while you are
taking care of your husband, don't forget to take care of yourself and the rest of your family.
Cindy C.
