If you have cluster headaches, your catscan won't turn up anything. When I went to the doctor complaining of severe head pain, they gave me a catscan (usually called a CT scan these days) to make sure that I didn't have a brain tumor or an enormous cyst in my sinuses or something. Nothing showed up on the scan, so based on the rest of the information they had, I was diagnosed with clusters.
Believe it or not, after running through various checks for brain tumors or nerve damage, I was pretty happy to find out that I had CH. Pain-free is great, but I'd rather be living in pain than dead or dying. Those lucid moments still count for a lot. :)
