You bet it is an illness. Headache is in my opinion not an accurate description of this.
The interim no-pain days during a cluster though rare, do leave you wondering what is waiting in the wings.
And as for when they stop, I fear thinking, talking, or any related activity will only hurry their return.
I get irritated when continually questioned " How is the head" when a cycle is not present. I guess part of that is it brings it back to the forefront of my thoughts. I am extremely happy when during a pain free period I can go more than one day without wondering when they will return.
So, I too stay 100% away from the subject when not in a CH period. Probably not wise, but necessary to maintain sanity!
