Contrary to what Brian thinks, the date that's printed on the box/wrapping/foil is not a date based on when the stuff leaves the chenmist, but the use by date, determined by the pharmaceutical protocol, counting from the moment the stuff is produced.
I cannot imagine a US drug being without the prescribed use by (or sell by) date. You'll have to look very close though. Maybe use a lens, as some stuff is printed in dark blue on a marine blue background...
