I was on 480mg of verapamil for a year and quit taking it because it did nothing for my headaches. I am now on lithium. I take 300 am and 300 pm. I am now not having headaches. This is great because I have been chronic for 3 years with 6-8 ha a day with no relief. My neuro is taking blood levels to monitor the lithium every 6 months. As long as that is watched I should be fine. I could be on this indefinetly/forever. It sure beats the pain of the cluster headache. My dr. offered to put me on lithium a couple years ago but I said no lets try the antidepressants, the calcium channel blockers, the seizure medicines. I was afraid of lithium because of horror stories I had heard of it. Boy do I regreat putting it to the bottom of my list 3 years latter. It sounds like your husband was told to take it 3x a day but never really gave it a try past 1x a day. Maybe he is afraid as I was? Maybe he could talk to his dr. and voice his concerns so he could feel better about his medicines.
