it is a supersensitivity or slight pain in all the places the pain usually hits when it's for real. It feels like a shadow or ghost of a real attack.
With some people shadows develop into attacks, with others they (often) don't.
I have been theorizing that when I get lots of shadows, it's really attack time for me, only they are not powerful enough to really, really hurt.
