I have used the Zomig tablets with great success, and would recommend them to anyone.

The manufacturer is Zeneca. I don't know if they make nasal spray or injectors. The tablet dosage is 2.5 mg. The active ingredient is zolmitriptan, in Imitrex it is sumatriptan. Zolmitriptan apparently is a second-generation triptan, more efficient and more narrowly focused, so a lower dosage is needed and the potential side effects (for those with heart problems) is greatly reduced. Zeneca says not to exceed 4 dosages in a 24 hour period. Glaxo (Imitrex) says no more than TWO dosages per 24 hours of Imitrex.

Glaxo has a newer triptan than Imitrex, also.... it is called Amerge. From what I have heard, it is similar to Zomig, but I have no personal experience with it. Others on this message board have also mentioned Maxalt.... for some reason I got the idea that it is a triptan, too, but I may be wrong about that.

To me the advantages of Zomig are:

1) it is slightly cheaper than Imitrex.... not a lot, but some.
2) it takes less time to stop the pain... not a lot, but some
3) each dose seems to last longer than Imitrex.... even at the peak of my cycle I will get at least 8 hours before the next headache comes.... Imitrex will often hold them off only for 6 hours
4) if necessary, up to 4 a day can be used.

From what I have seen here, I am the only one posting to this board who is using Zomig. If anyone else has tried it, please add your comments to mine
