In Reply to: Is OUCH a Serious organization? posted by James on March 03, 2001 at 16:18:32:
James, if you are not sure of this organization, than my suggestion would be to explore other options. See if there is somewhere that your money would go to better use.
In my experience, you can use search engines, and do all of the research you like, but you will not find a place in the world, other than here, that has all the info you need in one place. But you need to find that out for yourself.
As far as OUCH goes, I myself have just joined a committee, The Liason Committee, led by Steve Van Rees, that I am very excited about. We are talking about such things as making an actual difference in the lives of CHers, and making a lasting difference. What is happening now is that we are exploring ways to have on-line meetings, between Liason committee members, and between seperate committees, discussing the issues we want to tackle.
OUCH is going to grow into the most powerful organization there is concerning our disease, that is without a doubt. But with so few people, and such limited funds, there is only so much that can be done.
Instead of being cautious, why don't you spend a little time at the MB and see how many dedicated people there are here, and jump in with both feet.
What do you have to lose?
Don't get me wrong James, I am not pissed off at your post, rather I take it as a challenge to the organization. And, I, in turn, am challenging you, to spend the time it takes to see what we are doing. If you accept the challenge, then I challenge you again to NOT want to be part of it. Once you see what we are up to, you'll not only want to be involved, you'll want to be a part of it, I promise you that.
Spend two weeks reading the posts at the board. If I am wrong, then you take your interest elsewhere. If I'm right, you let me know, and I PAY for your first years dues to OUCH, if you can convince me that you are genuinely interested and want to help.
Let me know if you're up to answering your own question James!
I appreciate your interest.
